Stardust, however, doesn't have anything for me to be critical OF, except its designation as a children's book. There's a sexual encounter in there that is definitely NOT child appropriate. If I had bought the book for a child, I'd be very angry, but I bought the book for myself, so that didn't cause me any problems, just some surprise. Stardust can refer to: a novel by Neil Gaiman; the film adaptation of this novel. Although the underlying storyline is the same in both the book and the film, there are numerous differences.
Stardust is far more than a simple love story or fairy tale, it's irreverent and oozing with genre fun. Oh and you also have an extraordinarily gifted cast across the board. Films aren't really 76%. If we view Stardust as a response to the gender politics of "Song," then we'll get a slightly different meaning out of it. Yes, the book on one level is about the protagonist going and catching a fallen star, and finding cool magic stuff. But we also see lots of female characters doing lots of things, and importantly, while some of these things.
